Managing More Than One Language
Strategies and methods to help you learn and maintain multiple foreign languages
Welcome, aspiring polyglot! It has come to my attention as of late that there are many people who prefer to work on multiple foreign languages simultaneously. While there are pros and cons to consider when taking this approach to developing your language skills, if you plan to speak more than two languages it is going to be vital that you develop strategies to juggle the new languages. From keeping the new vocabulary words separate to ensuring your grammar structures are staying consistent, learning more than one language at a time is going to be challenging. If you do it right, though, you might find that each new language is just a tool to learn something new.
Splitting time between language acquisition and language maintenance
The first thing people usually struggle with when approaching multiple languages at the same time is determining how much time to dedicate to each language. At the end of the day, an even split tends to be best for most people. While it can feel as though you would be better off spending more time with the language you knew least, this can quickly become counterproductive.
